Certificates I-IV are the first four of the six levels of qualifications offered in the Vocational and Technical Education sector (the Diploma and Advanced Diploma are levels five and six). Vocational education is education and training for work. It exists to develop the competencies and skills of students.
Certificates I and II assist students acquire basic vocational skills and knowledge, while Certificates III and IV build on skills and knowledge already gained through work and/or life experience.

The length of vocational programs varies greatly and depends on both the program and the delivery method.
