A Doctoral degree, or Doctorate, rewards a substantial and original contribution to knowledge. This is expressed either as new knowledge or an original adaptation and/or interpretation of existing knowledge. This contribution takes such forms as:
- Comprehensive and searching review of the literature
- Experimentation
- Advanced and expansive critical reflection of professional theory and practice
A graduate of a Doctoral degree is able to:
- Carry out original research projects at a high level of originality
- Present a substantial and ordered dissertation, thesis or portfolio, for submission to external examination against international standards.
There are two programs available, the Research Doctorate and the Professional Doctorate.
The Research Doctorate is achieved through supervised research and the Professional Doctorate is achieved through a combination of coursework and research, and also requires a certain amount of professional practice, prior to, and/or as part of the program. |
