Su's Next Move

Study

Su Noh is from South Korea. When she arrived in Australia she based herself in Sydney. Last year Su took a road trip, heading north with her boyfriend. When they arrived on the Gold Coast she immediately fell in love with the city.

“I really liked the vibe here. The weather was sunny and the water was warm. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the Gold Coast is – it was a lovely experience.”

Su had been studying at an ELICOS school to improve her English before taking on a course to become a chef. “I wasn’t happy in Sydney it was too big and too crowded for me. The Gold Coast is laid back and the people here are very friendly."

Further Studies

“Once I decided that I wanted to further my studies I was trying to decide between Canberra and the Gold Coast and it was then that I reflected back on the fond memories of my holiday here last year. I knew then that there really was only one place that I wanted to be.”

When Su enrolled to study Commercial Cookery at Imagine Education she heard about the Student Accommodation Grant and lodged an application.

“I feel very privileged to have access to the Student Accommodation Grant. It’s such a huge relief for me because I’m currently looking for a job, so I have no income yet. Not having to worry about paying my rent for 10 weeks takes the pressure off me while I look for a job and helps me to focus on my studies.”

Student Accommodation

Su chose to stay at the student accommodation facility at Nexus Place in Ashmore. “It is a very good place to stay. They have a pool and laundry facilities are included and it’s also very quiet.”

Nexus Place

Su also took advantage of the grocery packs available to international students from the Gold Coast Student Hub. “My boyfriend made a Mexican meal for us from the groceries last night and it was very good food. We are so grateful for the support we’ve received on the Gold Coast. It has made our transition to living and studying here so much easier.”

After she graduates Su would like to work full time on the Gold Coast. “If I can find a job I would be very happy to stay here. I love the Gold Coast.”
