TAFE DRIVES MOTORSPORT STAR’S EDUCATION

Study  Careers

One of Australia’s brightest and youngest Motorsport stars is taking the opportunity to drive his educational journey further on the Gold Coast thanks to TAFE Queensland.

Broc Feeney, a 15-year-old All Saints Anglican College student is one of Australia’s best junior kart racers and has just commenced an Automotive School based apprenticeship. Broc has enrolled in the AUR30616 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology at TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Region to gain a solid educational foundation for his professional motorsport career.

“With a strong school education already behind him, Broc is further embarking on his career pathway as he steps off the podium and into the classroom as a first year Automotive Light Vehicle Mechanical apprentice,” said Glenn Cuthbert, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Region Automotive teacher.

“Broc will be learning current industry practices and first year competencies. I’m sure he’ll bring his motorsport experience into the trade classroom, which he attends on his day release training at the Ashmore Campus, to the delight of his fellow classmates,” said Mr Cuthbert.

“Knowing that TAFE Queensland Gold Coast is playing a role in Broc’s education and building towards his future motorsport career is a tremendous honour for our organisation,” said Karen Dickinson, General Manager of TAFE Queensland.

“Top performers in their game recognise the quality training that we have on offer here on the Gold Coast. We are committed to providing quality education and training for everyone. Our expert, award-winning Trade teachers have extensive and current industry experience that benefits our students and allows them to graduate with a nationally-recognised qualification.”

Future Champion

“Broc has the talent, experience and ‘know how’ behind him to take him to the highest level within the world of motorsport,” said Stuart DeDear, Director of Senacon Sponsorship International and Commercial Manager for Broc Feeney.

Broc understands the importance of the business off track as much as the results on the circuit. He has grown up around motorsport and is building an enviable profile for himself in the sport. Besides racing, he combines his studies with working for his Dad, Paul, who is also a well-respected member of the international motorcycling community.

After being at the forefront of karting in Australia for the last four seasons, 2017 saw Broc win the elite junior karting category in Australia (KA2), propelling him onto the world stage.

He became the first Australian to finish on the podium at the ROK International Cup and led the Main Event of the Supernats, the biggest karting event in the world, until the very last corner, finishing runner up - just 0.04 seconds behind the winner.

In 2018, Broc made the transition to circuit racing and the wildly popular single-make Toyota 86 Racing Series. In the first event of the 2018 season, Broc finished 14th out of 39 competitors. He drove the car that dominated the opening season of the Series in May 2016 at the hands of Will Brown.

Broc aims to use the 2018 Toyota 86 Racing Series, coupled with the Australian KA1 Karting Championship, as a year to transition into circuit racing before taking on an international career in 2019.
