Vision 2020

Innovation

Congratulations to the successful applicants for Study Gold Coast’s Vision 2020 partnership program. Vision 2020 is designed for the Gold Coast’s education and training sector to partner with industry stakeholders in delivering innovative and sustainable projects to contribute to Study Gold Coast’s vision for 2020 and beyond.

Some of the exciting initiatives include the Vocational Employment Pathways Program, where TAFE Queensland will provide practical training and employment opportunities for university students in the hospitality, events, catering and tourism industries.

Quickstart2VR – a program that will engage local high school students in educational experiences, providing them with skills in design thinking, technology and communication, which will in turn inform participants of local tertiary pathways and career options.

A bi-weekly bus service connecting students from Bond and Southern Cross University to the Gold Coast Student Hub, creating opportunities for students to connect with community and cultural groups, and employers on the Gold Coast through participation in events and workshops run by the Student Hub.

In particular, it will allow new students to make social and professional networks soon after arrival in order to integrate quickly into the Gold Coast community.

A dedicated student zone within the Gold Coast Innovation Hub for young innovators to continue working on their business ideas after participation in school and university led programs or competitions such as the Mayors Telstra Technology Awards or Startup Weekend. Student entrepreneurs will be supported by a dedicated innovator in residence, providing them with introductions to mentors and potential customers.

Being positioned within the Innovation Hub will also provide the students with exposure to around 200 early stage digital businesses and opportunities for work experience within these new enterprises.

These initiatives illustrate how collaboration between our institutions within the sector and local industry can benefit the aims of the City and Study Gold Coast in building student attraction, retention, experience and employability to realise our mission of making the Gold Coast Australia’s favourite classroom.
