Ambassador of the Month - Jake Goodall

Jake Goodall, Secondary Student- Trinity Lutheran College

Do you plan to keep studying on the Gold Coast after high school?

At the moment I really don’t know where I want to study, I’m looking at going into performing arts or medicine (opposite ends of the spectrum, I know!). I would love to study on the Gold Coast as it’s close to my family and friends.

As a local, what’s the biggest misconception about the Gold Coast?

The biggest misconception about the Gold Coast is that everyone loves the beach. But I absolutely hate the beach!

What do you love about living here?

I love how close everything is. I can drive 10 minutes and be in Surfers Paradise but also be in the Rainforest. I love being able to access so many environments so quickly.

What’s one really cool thing about your school?

One really cool thing about Trinity is their performing arts department. The department is headed by Cherie Smith, who is amazing and provides so many opportunities for us. For example, in the June/July holidays 30 of us are travelling down to Melbourne for a week of intensive touristing and tons of workshops from writing music for the Federation Bells to Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance workshop. I’m so excited to be a part of this journey with my friends and teachers!

Did you get involved with the Commonwealth Games or Festival 2018?

I didn’t necessarily get involved with the Games, but I went to Broadbeach every single night to watch the performances which were absolutely phenomenal. I also got the chance to watch the finals of the wrestling which was crazy fun but also very scary!

What have you learnt from your experience as one of the Mayor’s Student Ambassadors?

I have learnt so many things, the most important in my opinion is networking. I’ve been given so many opportunities to network with VIP’s and with other locals. I’ve made tons of friends through the program, and my introverted self has now been given so much confidence which will stay with me for years to come.

Where do you like to hang out on the Gold Coast?

I love to hang out in Pacific Fair. I’m very much a shopping person, I love going to the shops with my friends and having a great time. Actually one of my favourite things to do in Pacific Fair with my friend Natalie, is to go to Myer’s bed section and lie on all of the beds. Which sounds so dumb, but it’s great fun.

What’s the Gold Coast’s best kept secret?

The Gold Coast’s best kept secret is a café called Blendlove. It’s an amazing raw food café which sounds really pretentious but the food is amazing! It’s on Ferry Rd in Southport and I go there all the time!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?

If I could change one thing it would be able to give all children around the world an education. I would want to be able to help families care for their children and make sure all people around the world can read and write and make their own opinions of things - sadly because the majority can’t.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am looking at taking a gap of around 8 months and travelling to America for the World Scout Jamboree, I am part of the international services team which will be facilitating the Jamboree. I’m really excited to be a part of the jamboree and hopefully it will teach me many new things. After that I hope I can go to university and get a successful job. But you never know!
