Smartr app connects students with tutors

Careers

A smart app hailed as the ‘Uber of learning’ will connect students with prospective tutors in real time and allow subjects to track and rate their tutors, using similar technology to the ride-sharing giant.

Developed by former TSS student Sebastian Davies, Smartr seeks to identify tutors and students and filters subjects based on location, price, profile and availability.

The app has been in development phase for 16 months and lists the relevant credentials of prospective tutors, including their bios and also publicises relevant safety requirements such as working with children checks and Blue Cards.

“When creating this app I really had uni students in mind, because they need that flexibility to work and study,” says Sebastian.

“With Smartr you can become a tutor and earn that extra money even when studying full-time. I’m really excited for Smartr to reach the students of the Gold Coast, to give them more opportunities to gain flexible employment whilst giving them further study options outside of schools and universities.”

Sebastian, 28, is talking to local universities about helping to promote his app, which is now available as a free download on iTunes.
He is being supported by Study Gold Coast’s employability program, which is aimed at strengthening the link between education and business, address the skills gaps and ensure that our students are given the best chance to kick-start their careers on the Gold Coast.
