Study Gold Coast CEO to Pursue New Ventures

Study Gold Coast CEO, Alfred Slogrove has decided to take on new ventures and the Board has today accepted his resignation.

During his tenure as CEO, Mr Slogrove has played an integral role in the promotion of the city’s education sector, attracting students from across the world to study and work on the Gold Coast. 

The Study Gold Coast Management Committee would like to thank Mr Slogrove for his significant contribution to Study Gold Coast and wishes him well in his future endeavours. 

Mr Slogrove has also advised of his intention to resign his role as Director of Gold Coast Tourism Corporation Limited (trading as Destination Gold Coast), effective as of 1 January 2023. 

Mr Slogrove would like to pass on his gratitude to the Management Committee and staff of Study Gold Coast for the opportunity to lead a dedicated team focused on shaping the city’s education sector. Mr Slogrove would also like to thank all the City of Gold Coast representatives and member representatives.

Mr Slogrove has expressed his fond memories of the success the organisation has had over his four years including, doubling our membership, working with all levels of government to change the regional status of the Gold Coast, the amazing friendships created and the hosting of Australia’s largest international education conference. 

With Mr Slogrove at the helm, the organisation has had a positive influence on the Gold Coast, and will continue to do so as it continues to feed the growing industries with the talent they need, which is critical for the growth of the Gold Coast’s education sector and economy.

Laura Caballero is a qualified graphic designer from Bogota, but never had the opportunity to work as a designer because she wasn’t able to gain the essential work experience to get a job in what is a highly competitive employment market there. She ended up working in a call centre for a communications company instead.

With very few prospects in Colombia Laura began to consider study options overseas and the Gold Coast was recommended as an ideal destination by a number of education agents who talked about the city’s opportunities and great lifestyle.

Laura began researching the Gold Coast on the internet was impressed with what she discovered. Then when she heard about Study Gold Coast’s travel grant for international students Laura applied in the hope that she would be successful.

Farewell to the Class of 2022

This week the 2022 Mayor’s Student Ambassadors met in the Gold Coast Student Hub one last time with the official close of this year’s program. There were lots of smiles, laughs and  a few tears as the Ambassadors and the Study Gold Coast team reflected on the accomplishments of the group and the individual achievements of this exceptional cohort of students.

Anyone who has participated in this program knows all too well the extraordinary bonds that are forged through the shared experience and the responsibilities that are part of being a Mayor’s Student Ambassador. This year presented its own particular challenges, with several students arriving just after our international borders reopened before taking the plunge into the unknown as an Ambassador and often finding themselves out of their comfort zone.

A “good vibe” while she was meditating at home in Brazil motivated Bruna to seek out the Gold Coast as the ideal place to study.

Having decided that Australia would match her dream international destination, it didn’t take her long to narrow that down to the Gold Coast.

After waiting for the borders to open and her visa to be issued, Bruna arrived mid year and enrolled at The Language Academy in Broadbeach. She’s now enjoying the Gold Coast’s special allure, or “energy vibe” as she calls it, and when she’s not studying you’ll most likely find her at the beach.

Steel city export fired up by education on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a long way from the steel city of Jamshedpur in India, where Pooja Jaiswal was born and raised.

The 21-year-old enrolled in a Bachelor of Health Sciences with Bond University and was studying online until this year, when the pandemic subsided enough for her to make her life-changing move Down Under.

Pooja says that campus life has fired her passion for study and awakened a new-found confidence in herself.
