Made Handijaya Dewantara is from one of the most popular and desirable tourism destinations in the world, the beautiful island of Bali and tourism is his chosen career path. Made’s wife is also pursuing a career in tourism, having commenced her PhD at Griffith University in 2019.

Twelve months later Made was all set to follow in his wife’s footsteps until a certain global pandemic closed the international borders, leaving Made stuck at home in Bali with their young daughter. They remained separated for two long years, until the borders finally reopened and Made was one of the first Indonesian students to arrive on the Gold Coast. Needless to say, it was quite the reunion.

Now ensconced in his own PhD at Griffith, Made is loving his study experience in Australia’s tourism capital of the Gold Coast. Made loves the warmth of the people, the proximity to nature and the exceptionally high standard of education offered here. More than anything, he’s excited by the untapped potential for tourism and business prospects between our two countries.
