Marine Engineers do the following tasks:

  • Supervise other engineers and crew members and train them for routine and emergency duties.
  • Perform monitoring activities to ensure that ships comply with international regulations and standards for life-saving equipment and pollution preventatives.
  • Prepare plans, estimates, design and construction schedules, and contract specifications, including any special provisions.
  • Provide technical leadership and project management for marine design and construction.
  • Inspect marine construction and evaluate metrics like stability, weight, and hydrostatics.
  • Document requirements, instructions, material specifications, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Monitor logs, data, and user feedback to identify trends and improve designs.
