Types of study


More than 200 international and domestic education providers can be found right here on the Gold Coast. This includes; three major universities (Bond University, Griffith University and Southern Cross University), TAFE Queensland Gold Coast, private vocational and registered training organisations, English language schools, and high schools.

These learning establishments have a strong focus on providing education that meets or goes above international standards, giving students the best possible employment opportunities after their studies.

The Gold Coast is home to three well-respected universities; Bond University, Griffith University and Southern Cross University.

Universities offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in many different areas of study. Undergraduate courses include diplomas and bachelor’s degrees, whilst postgraduate degrees are for those students who have already completed one degree and would like to undertake additional studies; these include graduate diplomas, master’s degrees and doctorates. These courses involve a combination of study methods such as lectures, tutorials, practical classes and private study.

TAFE offers mostly ‘vocational’ courses.

These courses can include study aimed for work in industries like hospitality, tourism, construction, health, office work, or community work.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast is one of Australia’s best vocational trainers. All of their courses have been developed with the help of businesses and industries, to make sure the teaching suits the skills needed for the jobs. This is a great way to see students having successful careers.

Vocational studies can often be used to help with university courses, either making it easier to get accepted into university, or having the course shortened with applied credit.
